- Material: A chess board, 16 white checkers, 16 black checkers. On the left the initial position.
- Moves: A piece moves or captures by making one step. Moves can only be made orthogonally forwards or sideways, captures can only be made diagonally forwards. A captured piece is removed from the board and the capturing one takes its place. White moves first.
- On his turn a player must make a forwards move or capture and then may make a sideways move but not with the same piece. If and only if a player cannot make the first move or capture, he must make the second one.
- Goal: A player wins if at the start of his turn he has more pieces on the opponent's first row than the opponent has on his first row. Stalemate is a win for the last player who made a move. Draws should be possible but rare.
